Department of Film and Media Studies
Events from this organizer
The UCSB Department of Film and Media Studies began as a small film studies program in 1973, comprised of interdepartmental faculty and visiting lecturers. The department now includes internationally recognized scholars, filmmakers, curators, and educators. It also is the home of the journals Camera Obscura, Screening Noir, and the long-running AFI Routledge book series, edited by Edward Branigan and Charles Wolfe. In 2005, the department initiated its M.A./Ph.D. Program in Film and Media Studies, and shortly thereafter was renamed the Department of Film and Media Studies. With the 2007 groundbreaking for the Carsey-Wolf Center for Film, Television, and New Media, the department’s teaching, production, and screening facilities will be expanded, making it one of the leading international film and media centers for graduate and undergraduate study and research.
