Aaron Zhao is a historian of early imperial (ca. 200 BCE – 200 CE) and early medieval China (ca. 200 – 600 CE). He is currently working on the military and local administrative institutions in early imperial and early medieval China and their relationship with imperial and social changes. He is also interested in the cultural and ethnic identities of the many peoples who lived during this “in-between” period when the infusion of “foreign” elements as well as the development of regionalized identities contributed to the formation of a beautiful yet often overlooked period. Aaron has a background in accounting and worked as a public auditor prior to joining academia.
