I’m a historian of sex and sexuality focused on Early Modern/Modern Britain and its empire. My work highlights issues of queerness, masculinity, and sexual identities. My current project explores how queer masculinities came into conflict with visions of imperial masculinity in the long-eighteenth century through the figure of the ‘military macaroni.’

I am experienced in teaching and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, and a strong advocate for the importance of public history and its potential to reclaim marginalized pasts.

My undergraduate research explored the role of ‘molly houses’ as formative and performative spaces for London’s early-eighteenth century queer subculture. My MA thesis shifted my focus on urban sites of queer community to New York City in the 1980s/1990s through an exploration of the Club Kid subculture and its influence on American popular culture (a longtime personal interest of mine). Alongside my geographic and temporal focus, I have received substantial training in queer and feminist theory, Atlantic and global histories, as well as histories of nationalism and nativism.
