Personal Statement:
My research focuses on the history of slavery and mid- to late-19th century sites of memory and history in the U.S. South. Particularly, I am interested in the memorialization of plantations into museums and sites of tourism, the erection of Civil War and Confederate monuments, and the role of place in constructing, re-writing, and enacting public memory, particularly regarding the history and legacies of enslavement.
