The Dynamics of Social Movement Unionism: Local Union Involvement in Immigrants Rights Movements in Los Angeles

Please join us for a talk by Cassandra Engeman on “The Dynamics of Social Movement Unionism: Local Union Involvement in Immigrants’ Rights Movements in Los Angeles.” Engeman is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology. Her work focuses on social movements and social movement outcomes, union-community coalitions in the United States, and union strategy. She has recently presented her work at the American Sociological Association’s annual meeting and the UCLA IRLE “Strategic Decision-Making in Labor and Social Movements” conference. Engeman has long been active in UAW Local 2865, the union for Readers, Tutors, and TAs in the UC system.
The talk, and subsequent discussion, is part of the History 294: Colloquium in Work, Labor, and Political Economy, 2010-2011 lecture series.

The Colloquium meets on Friday, October 29 at 1 p.m. in 4041 Humanities and Social Science Building.
