From the Museum of the October Revolution to the Museum of Political History
October 13, 2011 @ 12:00 am
Aleksei Kulegin is the Curator of the Museum of Political History of Russia in St. Petersburg.
The balcony you see in this building is where Lenin delivered his first speech in April 1917 after he returned from exile. This building, formerly owned by Emperor Nicholas II’ lover, famous ballerina Mathilda Kshesinskaia, became the Museum of the October Revolution. Kulegin will discuss how the museum survived the difficult periods of Stalin’s purges and the siege of Leningrad and how the museum was transformed into the Museum of Political History after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Sponsored by the Trust of Mutual Understanding and CES ArtsLinkInc and the Likhachev Foundation in St. Petersburg.
Kulegin will present again at 12:30-2:00 on Thursday, October 20, in HSSB, “Who Killed Rasputin? Myths and Reality of the Murder of the Holy Devil: Grigorii Rasputin.”
Both presentations will be accompanied with interesting photographs and illustrations that his museum has collected.
