I am interested in global civil rights and social movements during the early 20th century. Currently, my research is on Garveyism in the West. I examine how this important and complex movement, previously conceived of as a Black movement, was in fact multi-racial and multi-cultural in the Western U.S. Future research will examine Garveyism and its role in anti-colonial resistance movements in Africa.
